As part of its ongoing commitment to safety, modernization, and energy efficiency, the Lake Pend Oreille School District (LPOSD) partnered with Panhandle Electric to complete a comprehensive lighting upgrade at the Baldy Mountain Road bus parking lot.

The project improves early-morning visibility and overall security for the transportation team who keep buses running safely and on time each day. Designed with energy efficiency in mind, the new system features automated dusk-to-dawn controls for lighting, as well as time-controlled block heater circuits that help keep buses ready on cold mornings — all while reducing operational costs.

Thanks to a rebate provided by Avista Utilities, the district was able to offset a significant portion of the project cost, underscoring LPOSD’s commitment to financially responsible improvements that directly benefit staff and students alike.

Panhandle Electric is honored to support the district’s proactive investment in infrastructure upgrades. “We’re proud to work alongside LPOSD on this important project,” said Evan Lewis, owner at Panhandle Electric. “Lighting has a huge impact on safety and reliability, and it’s great to see the district take such forward-thinking steps to support their transportation staff.”

The project was completed in July of 2025.
